Standing in contrast to manicured city centres are the sites of industrial ruins. These sites, now considered 'wasteland,' once served a purpose. The unnoticed empty spaces have been sought out, the spaces that we pass through without thought every day. These spaces for me are intriguing and in their abandonment, can point towards the shift of societal, economic and cultural values that permeate our lives. Through an idealisation of light in the photographic image, I have learnt to meditate and to find beauty that exists unnoticed in our surroundings; a flâneur, observing not just society but the empty spaces within it.
