Photo Farnham Showcase 18 brings together a group exhibition, publication and book launch at the Photographers’ Gallery. The events showcase the BA and MFA photography student work.

Running across four exhibition spaces, the dynamic show highlights the diversity of student practice; from moving image to artist’s books, to still image and installation-based work. The subject matter of the student’s work varies from mental awareness, personal experiences, family archives, subculture movements, loss and philosophical themes.

With a distinguished history stretching back over 60 years, Photo Farnham encourages students to develop experimental and innovative approached towards the photographic medium. Studying photography enables the students to explore a variety of photographic practices through a range of contemporary and historical-critical context.

Through various workshops, tutorials, lectures and seminars, students have been given freedom to develop their own practice, incorporating historical and contemporary approaches to fine tune their creativity.

Natasha Caruana is a Senior Lecturer of Photography at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham, UK. She leads the third year, and project manages the Photo Farnham Showcase with the course leader Matt Lindsey.

The Farnham campus has a long history, going back more than 45 years as a respected art and design institution. A variety of courses are offered on this campus, ranging from glasswork and ceramics to film and animation.

With over 2,000 students, Farnham is the biggest UCA campus and has an incredibly strong community feel. The campus is home to the James Hockey and Foyer Galleries, which host a range of exhibitions by visiting artists as well as our staff, students and graduates.

There are many exciting and star-struck stories that have come out of the Farnham campus. Students before and after graduating have completed work experience with big names like Harry Potter, Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie and Corpse Bride, Simon’s Cat and others.
